Ships Emissions Control (SEC) Project

An intelligent system that detects, measures, and monitors ALL illegal ships’ emissions (SOx, NOx) throughout Emission Controlled Areas (ECA) and up to the Off-Port limits. All emissions’ measurements are available to our platform

We design a cost-effective and operationally efficient system that detects, reports, and monitors all illegal Sulfur and Nitrogen Oxide ships' emissions in real-time, up to the Off-Port limits and within Emissions Controlled Areas.

All reports are duly secured and immediately uploaded on System's database readily available to all interested stakeholders.

We utilize a high endurance, durability, and capacity UAV, equipped with a suitable embedded panoramic view optical sensor, capable to detect and identify poisonous gases emissions coming from vessels sailing to the port of interest. This UAV has the ability to autonomously patrol on a 24/7 basis depending on the operational environment and requirements.

In case of a suspicious vessel detection, specific ship’s Automatic Identification System and localization data are captured and a relevant alarm is raised to the System’s Control Station. Simultaneously, the alarm is sent to a Sniffer Drone which is assigned for a detailed emissions inspection to the specified suspicious vessel.

Our Mission Drone is equipped with a miniaturized, high accuracy SO2/NO2 and CO2 chemical analyzer, which is based on non-dispersive sensing technology. The chemical analyzer has the capability to estimate the relative amounts of Sulfur, Nitrogen and Carbon Oxides in the ship’s emissions within a few minutes.

We utilize high endurance, durability and capacity Sniffer Drones which can be remotely operated from a shore-based or a floating platform. Upon Sniffer Drone mission assignment, it autonomously takes off and flies directly to the specified suspicious vessel. The Sniffer Drone enters into the ship’s emissions plum to conduct the focused detailed inspections.

The appropriate number of emissions samples is collected and analyzed during the flight in real-time. Within less than 2 minutes after each sample collection, the analysis results are automatically obtained and wirelessly transmitted to the System’s Control Station.

Accurate emissions’ violation measurements, along with inspected ship’s data, trigger a relevant alarm to the Port State Authorities.

All reports are wirelessly uploaded and secured on our Emissions Control data Platform. Reports are consequently verified by the Port State Control competent authorities and after their visit onboard for the detailed inspections triggered by our System. Verified non-conformities are readily available to all platform subscribers worldwide.
